KILOMETRES or KILOMETERS?

Look at the spelling of "KILOMETERS".
I thought the spelling for all Smiths is "KILOMETRES" which I think is British English.
I looked up with internet a little bit and found that some of D shape speedo
has "KILOMETERS" spelling.

The spelling for this one is "KILOMETRES".
I think most of Smiths Chronometric speedo has this spelling.

I don't know why but it's kind of interesting.
Does anybody know why the spelling for the dial face of D shape speedo is "KILOMETERS"?
